Mailerlite Affiliate Program Review
What is Mailerlite?
Before we move on to the rest of the information that we’re sure you’re eager to find out about, it would be a good idea to first have a look at what this brand does.
As its name suggests, Mailerlite offers email marketing services, but that’s not the only thing that the platform can do for its users. In fact, there are quite a bit of other features and products that you can also suggest to your readership.
You have anything from landing pages and features for e-commerce to a website builder and more. And while this might not be the best-known email service in the world right now, it is a fairly established brand, so you shouldn’t have a lot of trouble talking about it in your content.
What features and services can you recommend to your audience?
When it comes to sending emails, some of the features that you will find here range from email automation and email marketing to transactional emails.
The fact that the platform also allows users to create a website with as little effort as possible can only be considered an advantage — especially for less tech-savvy customers who might want to build a portfolio, for example. Blog creation is also possible with Mailerlite.
Mailerlite also works for collecting leads, in the sense that creating landing pages and signup forms is a breeze, and there’s also a pretty nifty email verifier with the assistance of which marketers can clean and optimize their lists as best as possible.
Finally, in terms of selling products, you have a variety of integration features with all sorts of online shopping apps and products, as well as the ability to create paid newsletter subscriptions.
Now that we’ve gone through all of the features, let’s take a look at how much the plans managed by Mailerlite actually cost. As you know, the price of these can influence a buyer’s decision a lot, so it’s a good thing that the expenses that users might make with this platform aren’t through the roof.
There’s a free version available, too, so people can first give it a try before deciding to get a paid subscription. However, the free plan includes only a limited number of features, such as sending out up to 12,000 emails per month and the ability to use the account by just one user. Even so, there are a bit of extra features included in this plan, such as the drag & drop editor and up to 10 landing pages.
By contrast, the ‘Growing Business’ plan is priced at $9 per month (billed annually at $108) and comes with additional features, such as unlimited monthly emails, the ability to use the same account by up to three people, and 24/7 email support. Others range from unlimited websites and blogs, dynamic emails, and an auto-resend campaign (which can definitely come in handy at times).
The Advanced plan is billed at $19 and is now one of the largest ones available. It comes with all of the features already included in the previously discussed options, along with Facebook integration, a custom HL editor, pop-ups, and more.
There’s also an Enterprise plan available but the pricing is not visible on the site right now. Apparently, this one is tailored to startups and companies that have more than 100.000 subscribers and tend to send out a lot of emails. With this one, the user gets all of the assistance they might need.
Becoming a Mailerlite affiliate
When it comes to Mailerlite and affiliate marketing, something that makes this program stand out from the crowd (and not necessarily in a positive way) is the fact that it is self-managed.
You will have to sign up on the company’s website and you’ll receive your answer in several working days’ time. At first, you don’t have to give them a lot of personal details — just create a basic account with your first and last name, your email address, as well as your password.
You’re basically joining Mailerlite (the free version of it) automatically when joining the program. Once you’re approved, you can get your Mailerlite affiliate marketing links and start recommending these services to your audience.
Needless to say, you will also have to provide some information such as the ways in which you intend to promote these products, your website (if you have one), and for payment purposes, your PayPal ID.
How much can you expect to earn?
The commission rate of this affiliate program is perhaps the most significant reason to consider joining it. You will effectively earn 30% out of every purchase made through your affiliate link, but that will be 30% for all of the future sales, too.
So, whenever your referrals renew their subscription, you’ll be paid a 30% rate on whatever they pay for their plan. What we’d also like to note here is that compared to some of the other programs we’ve looked at in the same category, there’s no time limit when it comes to the recurrence of these earnings.
As you will see in one of the following sections, other companies allow you to get recurring commissions for limited periods such as 120 days or a year, but any renewals after that will not make you any money.
When someone clicks on your affiliate link, the cookie you get lasts for 30 days.
Another aspect we have to add is that Mailerlite uses only one company to process payments and that is PayPal — whether that’s a benefit or not, you will have to decide for yourself.
Pros and cons to being a Mailerlite affiliate
As you can expect when it comes to any affiliate program in any niche out there, there are both advantages and disadvantages that you first have to assess and only then decide whether the program is worth joining.
The 30% commission and the fact that it is recurring is, of course, one of the most important benefits. While the 30-day cookie could have been better, since we’ve seen that other brands offer tracking cookies lasting for 60 or 90 days, it’s pretty much the industry standard at this point.
Becoming a Mailerlite affiliate is rather easy, at least from the information that we have gathered in this sense. It takes just about 24 to 48 hours for you to get an answer, which is considerably less than what you can expect with larger companies.
With your Mailerlite affiliate login, you get access to a wide range of affiliate marketing materials that will make the task of recommending these products to your followers much easier on the whole. The program also has a number of affiliate managers that will be there to help you in case you experience an issue and need to talk to someone.
When it comes to the drawbacks, while there aren’t many, you should still mull over them before deciding to promote this company. The first disadvantage is that this program is self-managed.
Now, if you are a seasoned affiliate marketer and have dozens and dozens of niche websites, you will find it much easier to manage everything in terms of earnings and performance with an affiliate network, whether that be CJ Affiliate, Impact, FlexOffers, or anything else.
Unfortunately, Mailerlite uses their own site for this purpose, you will have to log into account regularly to see what commissions you’ve made.
Then, there’s the fact that the only payment method available (at least at the time we’re writing this) is PayPal. If you’ve used this system before, you probably know that there are some pretty hefty fees involved, not just with payment processing, but also with currency exchange — so if you’re getting your earnings in USD and your card is in another currency, you’re not going to be happy about the fees.
But apart from these two details, there really aren’t any other reasons not to at least consider using Mailerlite for affiliate marketing and increasing your monthly revenue.
How does the Mailerlite affiliate program compare to others?
Now that you’ve learned most of what you should know about being a Mailerlite affiliate, let’s look at several alternatives to ensure that you’re making the most of your decision.
ActiveCampaign
We’ve written a separate review of this program, so you should give it a read if you have some time. To put things simply, ActiveCampaign pays you up to 30% for every purchase made through your affiliate links. There’s a tiered system available, so do some research on that if you’re interested (the base commission is 20% and it increases to 30% when you refer more users).
As is the case with Mailerlite, the only payment method available here is PayPal. All of the payments are processed monthly, so at least you will not have to wait for the Net45 period put in place by Mailerlite.
GetResponse
You have two ways of earning if you want to become a GetResponse affiliate. You either choose the ‘get rich fast’ way and opt for the $100 commission on all paid accounts created after your referrals have clicked on your link, or you get a 33% recurring commission for the duration of their subscription (and renewals).
Something that undoubtedly sets GetResponse aside from the rest of the programs is the 120-day cookie duration. That’s significantly longer compared to the tracking cookie of the Mailerlite affiliate program, meaning just 30 days.
Moosend
This one is quite similar to what Mailerlite has to offer, but we’re planning a detailed review on it really soon. The commission is 30% but this is a recurring rate for the entire duration of your referrals’ subscriptions.
Another advantage of this one is that while it is also self-managed from what we found out about it, it does have a team of affiliate managers that are there to assist you with your journey.
ConvertKit
The ConvertKit affiliate program has both upsides and downsides, in the sense that the cookie duration is only 60 days, which means that it’s shorter compared to what GetResponse has to offer, but still longer than what Mailerlite gives you.
Once again, the commission you can expect with this one is a 30% recurring rate, so there are no surprises in this sense. Additionally, this program is not self-managed, so if you have a LinkMink account and use the platform for your other websites, you’ll be able to handle everything over there.
Sendinblue
This one falls somewhere in the middle of the other programs that we have mentioned in this article as a comparison to Mailerlite. The cookie lasts for 90 days, so it is three times longer compared to that of the Mailerlite affiliate program.
The brand doesn’t pay its affiliates a recurring percentage of whatever they spend. However, the best thing about being a Sendinblue affiliate is that it even pays affiliates for free accounts created through their links – you’ll get $6 for every referral who does that and a fixed $120 commission for anyone who gets a paid plan.
Constant Contact
The model currently utilized by Constant Contact for their affiliate marketing endeavors somewhat resembles what we described when talking about Sendinblue. What we mean by this is that they pay $5 for every free trial (so slightly less) and $105 for every paid plan.
However, the most significant advantage in this case is the 120-day tracking cookie, which we’ve only seen with GetResponse in this niche.
Final thoughts
So, should you become a Mailerlite affiliate? Only you can answer this question — we’ve gone through the commission rate, cookie duration, and payment methods, but we’d finally like to add that the company has a minimum payout threshold of $50.
All in all, this seems like a fairly decent affiliate program, although we might have enjoyed a longer tracking cookie more.
